Three Ways to Maintain Momentum in the New Year

A new year means fresh beginnings—an opportunity to start over or plot a new course. Chances are you have some goals or resolutions at the forefront of your mind. You feel energized and motivated. Perhaps you have a solid plan in place to ensure your success. Right now, the momentum is with you. However, in a few short weeks, it will become easy to lose sight of these goals. Life will get in the way and you may become preoccupied with everyday distractions. You will run low on time and energy. Before you know it, six months will have passed and you will be wondering what happened. What happened to your motivation? What happened to that drive to succeed? What happened to all of the steps you were going to take to ensure this year would be different?

Don't Hold Back, and Here's Why

You’ve been thinking about it for a while. In fact, it’s all you’ve been thinking about. First it was your dream, then it became a goal, and now you have a plan. It’s all right in front of you. You’re poised for success, yet you’re holding back. Why?

If you’re experiencing a feeling of hesitation before embarking upon a new journey, you’re not alone. It’s normal to feel uncertain about what lies ahead. However, if you find yourself becoming easily distracted or finding excuses for taking action, it’s time to evaluate the root cause of your avoidance.

Perhaps you’re not fully convinced in the strength and efficacy of your plan. It might be that you don’t yet have all the resources needed to really start off on the right foot. But more often, you’ll find that fear is at the heart of all hesitation.

Put Yourself at the Top of Your Priority List

We live in a non-stop society where everyone is constantly on the go.  If it’s not responsibilities at work, it’s managing the demands at home.  Once those are all satisfied, there is hardly any time left for yourself.  This is not an ideal way to function, yet it is the way that many of us live on a daily basis.  The truth is we don’t know how to manage our time properly.  We are stretched to our limits, but we continue to push on.  Why?  We tend to prioritize others instead of focusing on our own needs.  As human beings, we are inclined to focus on caring for those around us.  However, if we don’t take care of ourselves properly, we cannot adequately serve others in our world, both personally and professionally.  Personally, I always consider myself as my first and main client.  If I do not ensure my own safety, wellness, and health, I cannot help others at the highest level possible.

You can have an established plan in mind, you are ready to take action, and then…something unexpected. In my case, it was this car accident. That morning began like any other. My schedule was filled with client coaching sessions and other meetings, yet it all suddenly had to take a backseat to the current crisis.

Just a few days ago, I learned that the car insurance company had classified my brand new car as totaled from the accident. Not good. However, now I get to shop for another new car. Much better, wouldn’t you say?

First you’re down, then you’re up. Then you’re down again, and in just a short amount of time, you’re back on top. Life is known for its ups and downs....

The Secret To Having a Focused and Successful Work Day

We all want to be successful at work. Though we try our best each day, we know that some days are more fruitful than others. Sometimes it’s a matter of unexpected tasks appearing on our to-do lists. Other times, personal demands may pull us away from the professional tasks at hand. As both business professionals and human beings, this is to be expected. Even when outside factors are not infringing upon our productivity, there is another element to be considered—us. Many times, we are the ones who are stimulating our own success or lack thereof, simply due to our amount of preparation for the day ahead.

While many know the importance that a smooth and purposeful morning plays in a day’s success, preparation completed the evening prior is equally as important. The key is to take meaningful steps during both times, which will set you on the path to a focused and successful work day.
